Hi,

This is pretty much as I remember Rob. I met him and his wife whilst they were living in Perth, Western Australia in 1996(?). I was one of a group of "herpetologists" who used to catch up with them now and again, to talk snakes, drink beer, and generally carry on like idiots and have a good time.

I didn't hear about Rob's passing until quite some time later. I was taken by surprise by how much it affected me: I hadn't seen him for a few years, and had actually only caught up with him a few times in Perth. He seemed a really genuine sort of bloke. Most of all he was generous; with his time and goodwill. And a wonderfully dry sense of humour. The world is less of a place without him. My belated condolences.

All the best Rob.

Paul.

I graduated Auburn in 1993. During my five years of college, I met Rob at a place called Masters Grill. They used to have paper tablecloths and would pour a box of crayons so that customers could "draw" while tasting the good cold beer. Being a cartoonist myself, he came by and noticed my work and we instantly became friends. We traded cartoons and came up with crazy ideas about others. His sense of humor was simply incredible. We sometimes would rent a boat from a marina on Lake Martin and spend the weekends on the water. Those were some fun times. I lost touch with Rob after I graduated and through my remaining Auburn connections, learned later that he had passed. He really was a good guy & I still to this day have cartoons he drew. I even adopted some of his style in my own.

From Louise in Birmingham this week:

"Once again I read Rob's memorial site from beginning to end and once again found myself wrapped in his super abilities of writing and found all his words so tremendously meaningful."

I leave a response each time I like a article
on a site or I have something to contribute to the discussion.
It is triggered by the sincerness communicated in the post I
read. And after this post Untitled. I was excited enough to post a thought ;-) I do have 2 questions for you
if it's allright. Could it be only me or do a few of these responses look like they are written by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are posting on additional sites, I would like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post. Could you list every one of your communal pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

Was a roommate with Bob in the service. Won't get into detail but will just say I forgive Robert for his actions in the Navy. I could have easily had him dishonorably discharged from the service for some horrendous actions he jokingly perpetrated on me and his lifestyle then was shameful. He had a sick and perverse side and his jokes were of poor conduct of an enlisted man in the service. As a practicing Catholic and a honorable man I know violence is never a solution to a problem, I could only feel sorry and pray for him back then. We can't pick our roommates so I was stuck with him for a several months and just made the best of it. People will never know of the dark side of Robert as I did and what a shameful man he was back then, even others in the squadron were shocked by his demeanor at times, and I am sorry for his accident but it was also a wakeup call and blessing in disguise for him. I very well could see knowing him in the Navy that it seemed to me that there was a serial rapist and/or a pedophile in the making in him. God graced him and he turned his life around for the better. I hope he made his peace with God before dying. We can only leave this earth with our integrity. I being Catholic we forgive, and try to forget, God I wish I could forget !

I am very surprised that Anonymous above decided to smear Robs character and claim to be a Christian at the same time. This isn't the place to share such things. While I can't speak of your Navy days, I can speak of my college days a few years after. While his sense of humor was certainly expansive, he was one of the kindest most generous people I ever met at Auburn. Perhaps you do not share the same sense of humor as he did or maybe you mistook his intentions. Either way, I found him to be an amazing person and friend.
